Join 30,000 attendees and come be a part of the 16th annual World Beat Festival at Riverfront Park in Salem, OR on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, 2013. Taste the ethnic foods; listen to music and discussion from around the world; see performances from Africa, Asia and Europe; and have your children explore the kids’ activity tents and collect passport stamps from every continent. Discover that our neighbors and friends come from all over the world and live right here in our community. The World Beat Festival is Salem’s most vital expression of who we are, and contributes significantly to our community success.
This Festival we have a special focus on the culture of Japan; so expect plenty of unique traditions from the Land of the Rising Sun to be a part of the many cultures you will explore.
23 acres, 5 World Villages, 9 performance areas, 65 nations and cultures, 125 cultural performances, dragon boat races, 20 food vendors, 3 parades, 4 children’s activity tents, 1 Oregon.
The World Beat Festival is a program of the Salem Multicultural Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting an appreciation and understanding of the cultural diversity in our community. We have 1½ staff, 14 committees, and 1,000 volunteers who make it all happen. We ask for a $5 donation at the gate.
Meeting our mission:
98% of Festival attendees say they learn about cultural diversity in our community 94% of guests say they feel more accepting of people from other cultures as a result of their visit 100% percent say they plan to visit again
